The Peel Caring Network for Challenged Children is a charitable organization which was created in December 1988. It is primarily a support group for families with children who are intellectually handicapped. We presently have over 100 families who reside in Mississauga and Brampton on our mailing list, and we expect that number to increase each year.
Our efforts are directed at achieving full integration for our children into the mainstream of the Peel Region community. We do this by providing parents with information on services available to them, and by advocating on their behalf to obtain these services. We also support the work of other associations and individuals pursuing civil and human rights and equality of opportunity for persons who are intellectually handicapped.
The Peel Caring Network meets regularly and we publish a monthly newsletter in which we discuss issues and provide information. Our activities also include special functions such as a children's Christmas party, a family summer barbecue and social evenings for the adults. |
